Landmark Projects
UACED and the UA Sales Program partner together through Collaborative Learning Projects for economic development through businesses practices, called Landmark Projects. This allows our partners to directly engage as a client with a small team of pre-selected students. Teams consist of undergraduate students led by a graduate-level Project Manager to set expectations and a vision for the outsourced work to be provided to the client by the team. The purpose of these projects is to create a business benefit for the client while giving students live sales and marketing experience. The UA Sales Program facilitates a deeper connection between its students and corporate partners through these projects in which a team of students tackle a sales goal or organizational opportunity designated by UACED. Projects routinely include researching new or existing markets, building and running digital marketing platforms, conducting competitive analysis, and developing sales strategies.
Alabama Association of Community
Development Corporations - Fall 2016
The partnership between Alabama Association of Community Development Corporations (AACDC) and The University of Alabama connected a team of students with Dr. Arturo Menefee with the goal of expanding the organization’s brand and fundraising reach. The students’ first task was to design a new logo to aid in meeting these goals. The versatile and simple logo would ultimately serve as the foundation for the rest of the materials created. Once Dr. Menefee approved the new logo, the students could take the next step and design a website using Wix that would explain AACDC’s purpose in deeper detail.
Social media strategy was the next phase of the Project, in an effort to extend AACDC’s reach and enhance brand recognition. A Facebook account was made to assist AACDC in connecting to volunteers and other organizations. Lastly, the team researched non-traditional fundraising methods for AACDC such as GoFundMe. The final deliverables to Dr. Menefee included:

Deep South Food Alliance - Fall 2016
Deep South Food Alliance (DSFA) is an organization that connects with local farmers to market products and provide resources. This Project provided DSFA the opportunity to receive fundraising materials, as well as a source of potential partners. The student team first built a website template via WordPress in order to tell the story and purpose of DSFA. After website creation, the team generated content for marketing and fundraising purposes. The first of these materials was a presentation to use in front of potential donors. It consists of a simple slide deck that tells the DSFA story and needs. To complement the presentation, email newsletter templates were created with varying purposes: to request donations, to thank donors, and to update those connected to DSFA on what the organization is working on. Throughout the Project’s length, the team researched to identify potential partners for DSFA, culminating in a list for Andrew. The final deliverables for Deep South Food Alliance included:

Rickwood Field - Fall 2016
Rickwood Field in Birmingham, AL is a historic landmark, the oldest professional baseball field in the United States. Today Rickwood draws crowds through its games, tournaments, and other non-sports-related events.
The Landmark Project with Rickwood tasked 7 undergraduate students and 1 graduate student to partner with David Brewer, Executive Director, Friends of Rickwood, on his fundraising and marketing efforts. The team began by prospecting potential grant entities to which Rickwood Field could apply. Once an extensive list of 100 grant sources was created, the team prioritized the list based on the dollar amount to be received, application process, and specific qualifications of each grant. From there the team narrowed their search to athletic corporations like Adidas and Louisville Slugger to determine what other sources could aid Rickwood. The team then pivoted to the creation of marketing and donation materials. Email marketing templates were designed through MailChimp, along with a User Guide and recommendations on the mail server’s use. The final products given to David included:

Steel Magic Theatre- Fall 2016
The Landmark Project with Steel Magic Theatre asked students to create marketing platforms and strategies for the organization to grow and fundraise in the upcoming year. Five undergraduate students and a graduate student Project Manager worked with Susan McCain, Director, to ensure the materials and ideas remained aligned with her vision for Steel Magic’s future.
The team’s first step was to create a website, which was driven by their research of similar organizations. Once benchmarks were identified, the students methodically crated each page of the website with consistent branding, video footage, photos, and more. To complement Steel Magic’s new website, the team conducted research and to formulate an extensive fundraising blueprint, with a specific look on targeting the young professional demographic. The team made recommendations on methods to crowdsource as well, through GoFundMe. By the completion of the Project, Susan was provided with the following:

West and Southwest Alabama Tourism |
The Landmark Project between the University of Alabama Sales Program and Alabama Center for Economic Development afforded students the opportunity to travel to counties in West and Southwest Alabama. The students gathered video footage and live photos of landmarks, parks, and attractions in these counties to be used in promotional videos for the state of Alabama. In addition to video, the students captured audio of natives of those areas speaking about their experiences living in their respective counties. The students also gathered audio from international students at the University of Alabama to increase tourism from residents of countries such as China, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The final deliverables were:
• Video footage of 6 West Alabama counties including international student audio and audio of county natives • Video footage of 12 Southwest Alabama counties including audio of county natives Escambia County from uaced 621 on Vimeo. |
